BIOGRAPHY
Adam was born in London and by the age of 9 he attended drawing classes, focusing on portraits and still life. Following a foundation course at Central Saint Martins, Susan Engledow accepted him onto a two-year portraiture course at Heatherleys School of Fine Art. He continued his studies at Canterbury University, where his tutor John Long reinforced a technical approach to Adam’s painting. He undertook commissioned portraits, was shortlisted for the Lin Painters Stainers Prize and received a commendation from the Royal Society of portrait painters. Adam continued to sketch figuratively during his time as a performer in one of Cirque du Soleil's touring shows and is now living and working as an artist in London.
FIGURATIVE PAINTING
Adam’s figurative painting requires patience due to a slow, methodical process of working from life models in sustained poses. His carefully composed nudes and portraits are constructed using a controlled method of measuring and marking. With an analytical approach his paintings are underpinned by rigorous drawing and defined areas of subtle saturated colour, displaying an element of craftsmanship and calmness.
Adam's work is influenced by Post War British artists such as Patrick George and Euan Uglow who emanate from the teachings of a small group of painters in London called the Euston Road Group, whose founding members were William Coldstream, Victor Pasmore, and Claude Rogers.
